Performed by various military bands and orchestras, including that of the Coast Guard, which performs Aaron Copland's "ALincoln Portrait, " this collection of music from the mid-19th century includes Abraham Lincoln's favorite pieces, as well as narration by the grand old man of American news broadcasting, Walter Cronkite. In their performances of these military songs of the Civil War era, including "When Johnny Comes Marching Home, " "John Brown's Body, " and "Battle Hymn of the Republic, " as well as popular songs like "Camptown Races, " "Listen to the Mockingbird, " and "Hail Columbia, " these musicians rousingly portray the music of a bygone era.
